Alelia Parenteau, is the City of Santa Barbara’s Sustainability and Resilience Department Director, overseeing the workgroups within the Sustainability and Resilience Department, including the Santa Barbara Clean Energy Program, the Energy and Climate Division, the Environmental Services Division and the Creeks Division. The department’s mandates include clean energy development, zero waste communities, climate action, stormwater management, clean creeks and water quality, and sea-level rise mitigation, just to name a few. Prior to being the Sustainability Director, Ms. Parenteau was the inaugural Energy & Climate Manager for the City, where she oversaw the identification of energy efficiency and conservation strategies, implemented new technologies to reduce the City’s energy consumption and transition to 100% renewable energy and coordinated the development and implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan and achievement of the City’s Carbon Neutral by 2035 goal. She also founded Santa Barbara Clean Energy, the City’s Community Choice Energy entity which defaults its customers to 100% carbon-free electricity. With expertise in utility operations, creative financing strategies, policy development, and sustainability best practices, Ms. Parenteau has helped position the City of Santa Barbara as a City to watch in the State when it comes to sustainability, resilience, and climate action.
